Republican U.S. Senate candidate Sue Lowden looked up at the television set above the bar at Wulfy’s Restaurant about 6:30 p.m. Tuesday night showing Republican U.S. Senator-elect Scott Brown from Massachusetts proclaimed the winner over Democrat Martha Coakley to fill the seat left by the late Edward Kennedy in a traditionally Democratic stronghold.

The shortest U.S. Senate race in Massachusetts history will come to an end Tuesday when voters decide whether Democrat Attorney General Martha Coakley or Republican state Rep. Scott Brown will complete the term of the late Sen. Edward M. Kennedy, who died Aug. 25.

Prominent black Democrat defends Reid (Las Vegas Sun)

Donna Brazile, one of the Democratic Party’s leading black strategists, did her part Thursday to turn the page on what she called “the apology business,” delivering an impassioned speech to about 400 of Sen. Harry Reid’s black supporters in which she highlighted his long history of civil rights work, his legislation and his pivotal role in shepherding Obama’s agenda though Congress.
